Mike's Race Report from New Mexico

6/10/04 - 6/13/04 Arroyo Seco Motorplex - ASMA

Thursday June 10, 2004

Allen Ankney and I headed out for Demming New Mexico. We got there late that night and unloaded the Toy Hauler. We also managed not to blow one of the six tires that monster rolls on. The trip there is known to do damage on wheels and axles.

Friday June 11, 2004

Got up early and situated our pit as best we could until Tom, Pat, and Brian got there. Allen and I decided to do the Friday track day. Even though I had been to Arroyo Seco before I had never run the track clock-wise. After half the day I was just as slow as clockwise. But it was nice to get to ride it that way before the races on Saturday & Sunday.

Well the guys made it to the track late last night with no problems. We all got up early and got the pit set up the way it should. Brian’s crash at Firebird did not allow him to race but he sure helped out in the pit area. I had a little crash that weekend myself but I came out ok. There was a half day trackday and a few races. I only entered one race which was the 750 Superbike Am. I am sort of new at this racing stuff but it is a lot of fun. I did not have the best grid position and I was nervous about going into the first turn. That is where I crashed at in Phoenix. Every one was asking me if I was going to let it bother me. I said it wasn’t but I did not think about it until the start of the race. Well I made it through without crashing or taking someone out. The race went pretty good. I didn’t really gain much or lose ground. I ended up in 8th place. There was a small battle at the end with a guy which was really fun. But I held him off. The new Ducati 999 (bought from pat) is a fun bike to ride (almost like cheating).

Sunday June 13, 2004

We walked the track a bit on Saturday night which was helpful. I entered two races on Sunday which were Open Superbike Am and Southwest Thunder. The Open Superbike Am race was fun. I think I was in eighth place before the red flagged restart. Then on the restart I got a great jump and got in front of Tom, Allen and Pat. I managed to hold off Tom for a fifth place finish. The Southwest Thunder race was also a lot of fun. The was my first twins race. There was not a whole lot of people in it but I ended up with a fourth place finish. Not much else to say, see you at the next race report.
